エジプト検察、スパイ容疑で邦人訴追・イスラエルに核情報

【カイロ＝金沢浩明】エジプト検察当局は17日、同国原子力庁の核関連情報をイスラエルに流していたとして、原子力庁のエジプト人技術者と日本人男性、アイルランド人男性の3人をスパイ容疑で訴追したと発表した。検察当局によると日本人の名前は「イズ・シロウ」で、拘束はされておらず香港に在住している可能性が高いという。
当局によるとエジプト人技術者のモハメド・サイド・サブル・アリ容疑者（35）は香港で知り合った日本人男性などから現金1万7000ドルなどを受け取り、原子力庁のコンピューターから核計画の重要文書を盗みだした。文書は香港で2人が受け取り、イスラエルの対外特務機関モサドにわたったという。同容疑者は今年2月、エジプトで当局に逮捕された。
イスラエル外務省は17日、「そうしたスパイ活動は行っていない」と容疑を否定した。(07:01)

【カイロ１７日】エジプト当局は１７日、イスラエルのためにスパイ行為を働いたとして、エジプト原子力庁のエジプト人技術者を逮捕したことを明らかにした。またシロ・アイゾという名前の日本人とアイルランド人も訴追する方針を示した。
検察当局者によると、逮捕されたエジプト人は、イスラエルの情報機関モサドにエジプト原子力庁の活動に関する情報を提供していた疑いがあるという。
エジプトは昨年９月、２０年間にわたって凍結していた原子力発電所の建設計画を再開すると発表。２０２０年までに少なくとも１基の原子力発電所を建設する方針を表明している。
逮捕されたエジプト人は、香港から戻ってきた際に空港で拘束され、取り調べを受けたという。アイルランド人は、逃走している。日本人を含む２人は、欠席裁判で訴追される見込みという。
カイロにあるアイルランド、日本の両大使館ともに、この事実を確認していない。また、イスラエル大使館のスポークスマンは、エジプト側から公式な情報を伝えられておらず、報道でしか承知していないと述べた。

エジプト司法当局は１７日、同国で起きたスパイ容疑事件をめぐり、日本人男性を含む３人を訴追したと発表した。うち日本人ら外国人２人は「逃亡中」と地元メディアで報じられており、在カイロの日本大使館が事実関係の確認を急いでいる。
当局によると、日本人の名前は「アイズ・シロウ」（４４）。貿易企業の社員で、現在香港にいるとの情報があるという。ほかの２人はアイルランド人とエジプト原子力庁勤務のエジプト人研究員（３５）で、この研究員だけ身柄拘束された。
３人はイスラエルのために同庁のコンピューターから不正に情報を入手したとされるほか、日本人はエジプト人１人をスパイ活動に誘い入れた容疑も持たれているという。

An Egyptian engineer who works at Egypt’s nuclear energy agency has been charged along with two foreigners with spying for Israel, state prosecutors said.
Prosecutor-General Abdul-Maguid Mahmoud told a news conference that the Egyptian engineer, identified as Muhammad Gaber, was arrested on February 18, but said that news of his detention were withheld pending the completion of the investigation.
Mr Mahmoud said Gaber, 35, confessed that he stole “important documents” from the Atomic Energy Agency and passed it on to agents from Israel’s Mossad intelligence service in exchange for money.
The two foreigners charged in the case, one Japanese and one Irish, are being hunted, he told reporters.
Egypt, a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, has a small research atomic reactor but recently announced that it plans to revive its civilian nuclear energy program that was suspended 20 years ago following the Chernobyl disaster in the Soviet Union.
Israel is not a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and is believed to be the only state in the Middle East with a nuclear arsenal.
The two countries ended decades of hostility with the Camp David accords in the late 1970s, but their relations have been put under strain over a string of espionage cases.
In February, an Egyptian man with Canadian citizenship was charged with spying for the Mossad.
Defendant Mohammed al-Attar was arrested in Cairo on January 1 on charges of bribery, espionage and conspiring to “harm Egypt’s national interests”.
Three Israelis are also being tried in the same case in absentia.
Egyptian prosecutors said Attar confessed that Israeli agents had helped him to obtain a residency permit in Canada under a false name and found him a job in a bank.
They say he was paid $56,000 to spy on expatriate Egyptians and Arabs in Canada and Turkey.

The Egyptian authorities have arrested an engineer who works at the country's nuclear energy agency for spying for Israel, state prosecutors said.
Prosecutor Hisham Badawi told a news conference the Egyptian national had taken reports from his workplace with the aim of exchanging them for money.
Two foreign nationals are also wanted by the authorities, prosecutors said.
Egypt has a small atomic reactor for research purposes but recently unveiled plans for a civilian nuclear programme.
The Egyptian engineer was arrested on 18 February, but news of his detention was withheld until the investigation was completed, prosecutors said.
A government statement named him as Muhammad Sayed Saber Ali, 35. The foreign nationals were named as Irishman Brian Peter and Shiro Izo of Japan.

Strained ties

Egypt is a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which allows countries to build nuclear power stations under international supervision.
Israel is not a signatory and is believed to be the only state in the region with a nuclear arsenal, though it maintains a position of "ambiguity" on its nuclear weapons.

Last September, Egypt said it wanted to revive its nuclear power programme, which was frozen 20 years ago following the Chernobyl disaster in the Soviet Union.
